An almost perfect watermelon

I was alittle hesitant about picking this watermelon. but she was ripe enough to eat. She coulda used another week. But still good. And boy was she sweet!

Time to make pickled watermelon rind!

  1. It is so difficult to tell when a melon is perfectly ripe. If you figure it out, let the rest of us in on it!

  2. sue, I read online that you are supposed to look at the little curly tendril nearest it.And if it is dead then the watermelon is beginning to ripen. But I noticed that all the small new watermelon had vines that were fuzzy and healthy looking and the big one; it's connecting vine was looked as though it had seen better days.

    My dad swore that you put one hand one it and thumped with the other and if it vibrated it was ripe and he said this with typical male confidence so I smiled and agreed and well, it seemed he was about right. probably just a lucky guess though.
